BLACK EYED PEAS SET NEW CHART RECORD

2nd September 2009

As well as making history next month by appearing at the first ever F1 ROCKS™ SINGAPORE with LG at Fort Canning Park, The Black Eyed Peas also entered the record books last week.

The BEPs smashed the record for longest unbroken run at the top of Billboard Hot 100 singles chart – first with ‘Boom Boom Pow’ for 12 weeks, then with ‘I Got a Feeling’, which held the top spot for a further eight weeks.

“Every creative person wants to do it bigger than the last creative person cause you’re inspired by them, you’re fans of them,” said founder band member Will.I.Am.

“But to beat Elvis’s record, Michael Jackson’s record, The Beatles’ record, the Rolling Stones’ record, that’s crazy, dude.”

Flattered frontwoman Fergie was a little more humbled by her band’s achievement: “It’s amazing to know that these songs have connected with so many people”.

BEPs’ accomplishment broke the former record held by Usher, who spent 19 weeks at No.1 in 2004 with ‘Yeah!’ and ‘Burn’.

American singer songwriter Jason Mraz, who appeared at the SINGfest 08 event at Fort Canning Park last year, also set a US chart record this month, clocking up 70 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 with his song ‘I’m Yours’.
