  • #1 Glasgow’s Simple Minds were originally a punk band called Johnny and The Self-Abusers, which split on the day their first single was released.
  • #2 Simple Minds’ early recordings were described by British music weekly, the NME, as the best demo tape they’d ever heard.
  • #3 Simple Minds originally vetoed recording ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’ for the soundtrack of teen movie, ‘The Breakfast Club’. The song became the band’s first US #1 hit.
  • #4 In 1998, Singer Jim Kerr and former Scottish international footballer Kenny Dalglish unsuccessfully bid £30 million to take over Jim’s beloved Celtic FC.
  • #5 After writing a track for the 1993 Super Mario Brothers film, the band withdrew the song from the soundtrack, claiming it was too good.
