A-MEI Facts 1
- #1 A-Mei was born in the rugged mountains of eastern Taiwan as a tribal princess of the Puyuma clan of aborigines, which makes up just 2% of the island’s population.
- #2 A-Mei’s second album, 1997’s ‘Bad Boy’, topped the Taiwanese chart for nine consecutive weeks and became the second best selling album in the island’s history.
- #3 Following a six month hiatus in New York in 2001, A-Mei featured on the cover of influential American weekly magazine Newsweek.
- #4 In recognition of her international appeal, A-Mei was name checked as one of Time magazine’s ‘20 Asian Heroes’ in 2002.
- #5 In 2004, A-Mei accepted an invitation from MTV Asia to film a concert at the Victoria Theater, Singapore, backed by a band made up mainly of Singaporean musicians.
